For our anniversary this year, we picked DC to visit. \u00a0It’s been awhile for both of us sent we last visited, so we took a full week to soak up everything and still relax a bit.<\/p>\n
The timing was meant to coincide also with the peak of cherry blossoms, and it turned out to be just perfect. \u00a0The blooms were all over but so were the crowds. \u00a0We went down to the tidal basin late on the second day and there were so many tourists that it was like LA rush hour with people in place of cars. \u00a0There were literally traffic lanes of people across bridges.<\/p>\n
We spent most of the days touring a museum or two (all free!) and then some yelp\/tripadvisor recommended restaurant at night. \u00a0Our favorite museums were the air and space and the natural history. \u00a0The food was excellent. \u00a0The best was Rasika Indian (best indian restaurant I have ever been to, and I have been to India), although unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of the food (Bombay Chat was great). \u00a0We also really enjoyed Stachowski’s deli in Georgetown, as well as Sushi Taro near Dupont Circle (which was so good we went on two consecutive days!).<\/p>\n
This trip was also the first time that we stayed at an airbnb property. \u00a0We rented a 1BR apartment that was literally steps from the Columbia Heights Metro. \u00a0The price was reasonable (much cheaper than the same space in a hotel) and our host was very accommodating. \u00a0It was right across from a Target and there were some fun coffee shops within walking distance that we tried out. \u00a0We stayed with Elisa’s friend Caitlin the first two nights.<\/p>\n
We had a great visit with Elisa’s cousins Dave and Becky, and took in their neck of the woods a short metro ride away from downtown.<\/p>\n
While we’d both been to DC before, we really enjoyed many new things. The city has so much to offer and I can see why it’s a popular stop on the international traveller circuit of the US.<\/p>\nngg_shortcode_0_placeholder\n
